SO, senior thesis. The big one. What do I do?
A daunting decision, no doubt. But, when it comes down to it, I had to search myself for what interested me. More than that, I wanted to see what I MAY be interested in in the future. In a design world that is almost moving faster than one can keep up with, the designer needs to look into the future of the mediums that we feel that we know so well. SO, I came upon my big idea:

BOOKS : FROM THE PRESENT INTO THE FUTURE.

I read a really interesting article about IDEO and their predictions on what the future of books could be.
(URL: http://www.ideo.com/work/future-of-the-book). As you can see in the photos above, IDEO has flashed out three ideas of what the future may hold. They call them, respectively, Nelson, Coupland, and Alice. Each idea explores the possibilities of books in a digital age. Maybe more interactive? Non-Linear? Lose PAGES, we don't need them? The possibilities are endless, but IDEO has explored some potentials, and I plan to do the same.

CRAIG MOD: "EXPERT" OF FUTURE BOOK DESIGN

In researching the potential future of book design, obviously, there are some grey territories. The conversation moves from basic concepts of what the possibilities of future books could be. Maybe change the format? Maybe use technology to enhance existing ideas? As I described in my previous posting, the future could include in-depth, reimagined, interactive "books" that allow for infinite different possibilities of what the future could entail.

Check out the video (above) of Craig Mod, a writer/designer/speaker, about the future of book design. Throughout all of Mod's speculations (in the video and in other sources), he touches on the aesthetic possiblities of book designs in the future, as well as technical questions such as text-formatting and text RE-formatting across different digital mediums (ipod, ipad, laptop, eReader). Re-formatting of text in digital space is already an area of question by many people. However, as speculated by Mod, the possibilities of what the common book will be like in 15 years, the possibilities are endless.
